What was your inspiration for your wedding cake? What went into the design?
I’m not a huge cake person, but I love macarons, so we had to have a macaron tower! The French pastry chef at Streamsong shared my love and helped me to (somehow) narrow down 47 flavor options to six finalists. We decided against a rainbow of colors to do an hombre shading from dark peach to cream. The macaroon tower was definitely a highlight!
What is one piece of advice you would like to give to new brides?
Make sure you have a few people (parents, maid of honor, planner) read in on the exact blow-by-blow schedule for the day of the wedding – then, turn off your phone for the whole weekend and be in the moment!
If you could go back in time to give yourself one piece of advice before the big day, what would it be?
Have a snack between the ceremony and pictures so you don’t get hangry!
What was your gift to your bridesmaids?
We did a spa day on the Friday before the wedding. Streamsong has an epic spa facility that we just had to enjoy. We received a treatment and had a great spa lunch together before everyone arrived – it was great to have some quality time before things got crazy!
Where did you Honeymoon? Do you have any travel advice for new brides?
We honeymooned in Australia and Fiji, which was everything we dreamed it would be and more! We used Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which is a great site for upscale boutique hotels and gives you discounts and perks (e.g. free bottle of wine at check-in, $50 massage credit, 10% off retail prices). While they’re by no means a travel agency, they were great about getting on the phone with me to talk through possible itinerary options and were knowledgeable about the destinations I was targeting. Also, you don’t have to use them for your whole trip; we used a mix of their boutique hotels and AirBnB. My advice for honeymoon travel is to wait to change your name legally until you get back, so you don’t have any issues with you ticket and passport names being different!
